Robert Downs, the Celebrant

Hello I’m Rob Downs, I am a Humanist wedding celebrant. I have lived in wonderful South Devon for 20 years, and I take non-religious and Humanist ceremonies across the South West and beyond. Travelling further afield or abroad can be discussed and arranged if required. I lead ceremonies that have a Humanist philosophy.

Originally from The Midlands I have 3 daughters and have had a varied career, ranging from Scuba Diving and Water sports Instructor to ICT manager for the past 25 years. I get genuine enjoyment by working with people from all walks of life, in a way that sometimes the technical world does not provide.

Despite (or perhaps because of) an interest in religions, I’ve known I was an atheist since I was a child, and like many of us I was a Humanist long before I discovered what the word meant. I would never deny anyone the freedom to have a faith, but put simply for me Humanism is a life stance that acknowledges we can live a good, positive, ethical life without religion or supernatural beliefs. As part of that, I feel it is a true privilege for me to be able to work with people to enable them to mark some of the most important events of their lives and the lives of their loved ones.

Peter Herridge, the Celebrant

Across the world we share common experiences of humanity: we know the delight and joy that we can experience with wonderful life events and we know the depths of sadness that we can experience in grief that somehow sit alongside the wonderful memories that we have of an individual. As a Humanist celebrant I, and my colleagues, recognize the feelings that we share as human beings and I seek to create unique ceremonies that reflect those responses.

Now based in Yeovil, I have worked as a Humanist celebrant since 2002 delivering ceremonies across the South West of England as well as several wedding celebrations across Europe. My organizational and public speaking skills were gained through a career of 32 years in the Royal Navy. I seek to live a life that is as full as possible: alongside my ceremonies work I am also involved in mental health care locally, I have my much-loved family and I have rather too many other interests, which include motorcycling, running, skiing, travel, cooking, wine, film and reading.

My view is that a personal belief system is a lifetime’s journey and I do not seek to change any cherished convictions but I also believe that those who do not hold religious belief should be able to have the dignified and thoughtful ceremonies that they desire. To those ends, my ceremonies are inclusive but secular in their character.

Mary Langford, the Celebrant

My name is Mary-Jane and I am an accredited Wedding Celebrant with the British Humanist Association. I am currently residing in South Staffordshire but I grew up in the West Country and slowly moved north.

I come from a very large family and maintain old fashioned values in morality, family, community and loyalty.

My spare time is filled with charity event organizing, motorcycling, reading, belly dancing and my family. I am very lucky to have a wonderful friend network from many different backgrounds and I love to socialize and meet new people.

I became a celebrant after having my own Humanist Wedding, I wanted to give everyone the chance to have the gift of a wedding that was more than just a nice dress, or expensive venue. A wedding that would tug at the heart strings, make people laugh and make people cry with joy. Memories of a very special day that nobody can take away from you.

Even though I am based in the midlands I travel up and down the M5 corridor on a regular basis and I am willing to work anywhere down the west side of the country. If you are planning your wedding at a rally I will be more than happy to travel anywhere in the uk on bike, trike or car.

So whether you want to get married in your back garden with close family and friends or if you prefer to tie the knot at a biker rally in front of hundreds, the choice is completely yours.

I will write a ceremony which is unique to yourselves, throwing in some humor and personal touches bringing out the true meaning of your relationship and providing a day that will always remain in your hearts.

Your wedding, your way, please let me help you make a special memory.
